HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas Department of Labor released unemployment numbers for major cities, counties and the state on Monday.
The numbers show an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent for Hutchinson in January, up from 3.8 percent in December. That number, although slightly higher, is still lower than the number for January of 2017 when the rate was 4.9 percent.
The rate for Reno County is also slightly higher with the rate in January listed at 3.7 percent, up from 3.4 percent in December, but lower than the 4.5 percent in January of 2017. According to the release, there were 1,098 residents of the county looking for work in January, most of those in Hutchinson.
All of the surrounding counties also saw slight increases in January, but lower than the same period last year.
Statewide, preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in January. This was unchanged from December and down from 3.9 percent in January 2017.
