HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The new city of Highlands in northern Reno County is just now trying to put a budget together and wants to levy property taxes. There will be a special election Thursday.
The city is seeking voter approval to raise $60,000 for its 2019 budget.
The Highlands became a city last year and the tax lid imposed by the legislature for local governments triggered the need for the special election.
Early voting ended at noon, but polls will open inside the Crazy Horse Sports Club at the Highlands Thursday morning at 7 and will be open until 7 p.m.
