HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Doug Schroeder, the Hesston police chief who halted the deadly workplace shooting at Excel Industries in 2016, will be the featured speaker at an upcoming Hutchinson Rotary Club meeting.
He’ll speak on Monday, Aug. 20, to Rotary Club members during their meeting at the Atrium Hotel & Conference Center, 1400 N. Lorraine.
Schroeder began his career in law enforcement in 1997. He spent several years in the patrol division, followed by time in investigations before being appointed to police chief in 2001 for the city of Hesston.
In February, Schroeder was invited to the White House and awarded the Presidential Medal of Valor, the highest honor bestowed on a law enforcement officer.
Rotary Club meetings take place on the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Non-members are welcome to enjoy the speaker and lunch for a fee of $15.
