NEWTON, Kan. — This interchange improvement and bridge replacement project is in the preliminary design phase and includes replacement of the U.S. 50 bridge over Meridian Road and the BNSF Railway southwest of Newton in Harvey County.

Replacement of the existing bridge is necessary, as the structure is past its useful design life. Additional benefits include reducing future maintenance and enhancing safety. This project was identified as a top regional priority during Local Consult community meetings in fall of 2023 and as a result, has been selected for the IKE development pipeline.

A construction timeline will not be established until there is community support for the proposed project design.

KDOT is hosting a public meeting at Sand Creek Event Center in Newton, KS (1601 S Anderson Avenue, Newton, KS 67114). The event is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.

There will be no formal presentation.
