HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 61-year-old man is dead after being struck by a train Tuesday afternoon in Hutchinson.

At 1:47 p.m. officers with Hutchinson Police Department, along with members of Hutchinson Fire Department and Reno County EMS, responded to Ave D and Washington Street in reference to a train versus pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they found Daniel L Raya injured on the railroad tracks. Officers attempted life-saving measures on Mr. Raya but were unsuccessful. Mr. Raya was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

Main and Avenue D is a key intersection in Hutchinson right now as it is just a little ways north of the Frank Hart Crossing, which is the main way into Hutchinson from South Hutchinson due to the closure of the Woodie Seat Freeway because of the work going on there.
