DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating after a woman was shot and a man was injured after a dog got loose and attacked the man and his dog while walking in the 700 block of Ash Street in Lawrence.
The incident happened around noon Monday, according to a statement from Lawrence Police. The man stopped the attack by shooting the attacking dog and killing it, but he also struck the dog's owner, in her upper leg as she was trying to restrain the dog.
The woman was transferred to an area trauma center with suspected non-life threatening injuries. The man was seen by medics, but declined further treatment on scene. Police have not reported an arrest or additional details including the name's of those involved.
