1 dead, 2 remain hospitalized after shooting at Kan. home

WYANDOTTE COUNTY —Detectives investigating the eighth homicide of the year in Kansas City, Kansas have identified the victim as 48-year-old Javier Benitez-Pizarro, Des Moines, Iowa.

Just before 1a.m. Thursday, police  were dispatched to a shooting in the 1700 block of Cleveland Avenue, according to a media release. 

First responders discovered two men with apparent gunshot wounds. They was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Benitez-Pizarro was located outside of the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

One of the wounded man is reported in in stable condition, according to police. The third victim, an adult male, remains in critical condition.

This incident is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). All tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.There is nothing further to report at this time.
