SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The Wichita Wind Surge continued their offensive power display in an 8-7 loss in the series finale with the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Stadium.

Carson McCusker left the yard for his first home run of the year in the top of the second. The two-run shot went the opposite way to give Wichita a 1-0 lead, marking the fifth straight contest in which the Wind Surge was the first team to score. Alerick Soularie also pushed a ball deep enough to center field to score Noah Cardenas on a sacrifice fly in the frame to double the Wichita advantage.

Jefferson Morales’ first home run of 2024 was a little more grand two innings later. The left fielder emptied the bases after scorching a blast to left field toward his teammates in the bullpen.

Smacking baseballs high and far wasn’t the only way the Wind Surge scored today. Kyler Fedko grounded one through the hole into left field in the top of the fifth inning for a 7-1 Wind Surge lead.

The Cardinals rallied for seven straight, starting in the bottom half of the fifth through the last of the eighth, to finish a series sweep of Wichita. Jorel Ortega reached base in the top of the ninth on a hit-by-pitch before the following three Wind Surge batters hit into outs.

Wichita returns to Riverfront Stadium to begin a series with the Tulsa Drillers starting on Tuesday, April 16, with the first pitch time set for 7:05 PM.
