Alleged Kan. cocaine dealer remains jailed after crash into patrol vehicle

PAWNEE COUNTY—A Kansas man arrested after a police chase in Pawnee County made his first court appearance Friday.

 Joshua R. Castaneda, 37 of Great Bend, was charged with Possession of 264 Grams of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute; Felony Fleeing and Elude - Reckless Driving;  Felony Fleeing and Elude – Resulting in an Accident; Interference with Law Enforcement – Resisting Arrest for a Felony; Criminal Damage to Property of at least $1,000, but less than $25,000; and Driving under the Influence of Drugs, according to Pawnee County Attorney Doug McNett..

Castaneda was arrested by the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department on the night of April 9, following a chase which ended on the property of a local feed yard. The chase began after a routine traffic stop. The suspect abandoned his vehicle after crashing into the back of a patrol vehicle but was quickly apprehended. One deputy involved in the accident was admitted to an area hospital for observation but was later released.

Castaneda is scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing on April 25, 2024. He remains in custody with bond set at $90,000, according to McNett.
