⚾ Salthawks sweep Salina South, win fourth straight

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — For the first time in seven years, the Hutchinson Salthawks baseball team has won four straight games following a sweep of Salina South on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Salthawks won game one in a five inning run-rule victory, 12-0, before winning game two, 5-4.

Hutchinson is now 8-7 on the season and secures its most wins since the 2017 team won nine games. The 2017 team also was the last to win four straight games.

Game 1 (5 Innings): Hutchinson 12, Salina South 0
Cole Bleything pitched a gem for the Salthawks, going all five innings and allowing just three hits to earn the win.

Lakin Franz helped pace the offense with a 2 for 2 ballgame with four RBI. Franz delivered in his first at-bat, driving in three with a double to right field.

Hutchinson also got multi-hit games from Carter Morgan (2 for 3, 3 RBI), Caiden Beavers (2 for 3) and Jack Davis (2 for 3). Landon Parks drove in two with an RBI single in the second inning.

Game 2: Hutchinson 5, Salina South 4
Although the Salthawks only managed one hit in the game, Hutchinson was able to take advantage of some Cougar errors to score five runs in the win.

The lone hit for the Salthawks came off the bat of Parks in the second inning.

Salina South jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Hutchinson came back to eventually tie and then take the 4-3 lead after a three-run third inning. 

Eastyn Keeler was credited with the win for the Salthawks, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs. Franz recorded the final eight outs on the mound, including getting out of some traffic on the base path in the seventh.
