MEDORA, Kan. — Hutchinson firefighters are still finishing up work Saturday morning at a fire in Medora. Crews were called out at 4:40 a.m. and found a fully involved structure with multiple outside storage units involved.

Excessive storage conditions inside the home and outside the home limited extinguishment efforts. Rural water operations were used due to the closest hydrant being 5 miles away from the incident.

Crews attempted to complete what they call a Vent Enter Search of the only survivable space at the time, without success. It is unknown if the home was occupied. Fire operations continued with a defensive attack for multiple hours.

Crews are still actively fighting the fire and Old K-61 in the Medora area should be avoided for the time being. Multiple Reno County Fire Districts continue to assist with water tender operations. Medora Township provided a loader and backhoe to assist in removing the debris and excessive storage around the home.

Hutchinson Fire thanks Reno County Emergency Communications, Reno County Emergency Management, Fire Districts 3 and 8, the Buhler Fire Department, Reno County EMS, the Reno County Sheriff's Office, Medora Township, Kansas Gas and Evergy for their assistance.
