HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Duane Perry had only signed up for the $20,000 Super Cash Giveaway a few times this summer.
When he woke up Saturday morning, he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to try his luck on the last chance registration just before the big giveaway.
“I didn’t even plan on coming up here. I was like, uh, I thought, what the heck, I’ll go in there to put one more chance in there,” Perry said.
Ninety-nine finalists had already been named for the drawing over the last three months.
The local radio stations were able to present the life-changing money thanks to great sponsors like DH Home Improvement, Dillon Credit Union, Yoder Meats and Stutzman’s Greenhouse.
Listeners spent the last three months tracking down Super Van and listening for keywords on air to enter the contest.
Ninety-nine names were drawn at sponsor locations. Finalist 100 — Duane Perry — was drawn minutes before the big giveaway.
After the event, Perry was asked what was going through his head. “It feels amazing, I just give all the praise to the Lord. Like I said, I think He guided me here today because I had no intention of coming. I was just gonna go and get something to eat. Then I thought, no, I better just go in and give it one more try,” Perry said. It worked.
The event drew a packed crowd with only three finalists that did not show up or register by the noon deadline.
Each finalist won a $25 cash card.
Finalists were also treated to Pizza Ranch and enjoyed the music of Morgan Wilk before the giveaway.
