Two people from Topeka were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center after a one vehicle accident at Haven & Red Rock Roads.
It was a rollover accident where the driver, 35-year-old Shannon Kaffenbarger was traveling south on Haven Road when she crossed the Arkansas River bridge and lost control of the vehicle. She then crossed the center line and rolled the vehicle. She told Reno County Sheriff Deputies that she wasn’t sure how many time her Corolla rolled. She was temporarily trapped in the vehicle, but was able to get free with the assistance of a passerby.
She complained of head and neck pain. Her husband, 34-year-old Nicholas Kaffenbarger, was complaining of neck pain. Both were transported by Reno County EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Deputy Jack Trussell says after investigating the accident, it was determined after the vehicle crossed the bridge it became unstable. The vehicle crossed the center-line and left the roadway on the left side. Traveling through the ditch, the left front tire caught the uneven terrain and rolled at least one time. From the approximate point of loss of control to the resting point, the vehicle traveled 225-feet. The vehicle’s final position was facing south in the east ditch approximately just north of Red Rock road.
The accident occurring around 1:15 p-m, Saturday afternoon.
