Even though it was cool with a fairly strong wind, 2-thousand, 500 turned out for “Boo at the Zoo,” sponsored by the Hutchinson Zoo, Eagle Radio Station, Country 102.9 and Midwest Superstore. In fact, the local car dealership provided candy for the event which occurs around Halloween each year.
Trick or Treater’s get candy at various stations throughout the zoo as well as getting a chance to see their favorite animals. There were other things as well including food, the train ride for a small charge and getting a picture.
The event was free, however, Hutchinson Zoo officials were excepting small donations as they try to raise money for the Otter exhibit.
They say that when visitors donate money towards the new otter exhibit, they get cool otter merchandise in the gift shop! $20 gets you an otter t-shirt, $10 a reusable tote, $5 an otter magnet and for a $1 donation you can put your name up in the gift shop so everyone can see that you helped build a new home for the otters.
The “Boo at the Zoo” event has become a safe way for kids to trick or treat and see some cool animals at the same time.
