A 23-year-old Turon man was taken to a Wichita hospital early Saturday after an ATV accident just after midnight.
Derick Ballinger had been riding a white Suzuki 4-wheeler northbound on Burns Street in Turon and attempted to turn east onto Kansas. He was apparently going to fast and ended up hitting the curb right at the corner. His 4-wheeler went airborne and he and his 4-wheeler flew approximately 40 ft., through the air and struck the side of a building approximately 10-feet off the ground. The 4-wheeler then continued through the air another 31-feet.
Ballinger ended up falling to the ground and may have suffered internal trauma. He was transported by Midwest Lifeteam to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The victim reported to EMS personnel that he had consumed alcohol. A blood draw was done and results are pending.
Ballinger was not wearing any safety equipment when the accident occurred.
