It’s A Blue Dragon Double – Onto Men And Women’s Nationals

ath030913PARK CITY – For only the second time in Region VI basketball history, the same school captured both Region VI men’s and women’s championships.

The Hutchinson Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams won regional titles and will represent Region VI next week at the NJCAA Men’s and Women’s National Tournaments in Hutchinson and Salina, repspectively.

The HCC women exploded over the final 14 minutes of the second half to defeat Cowley 70-46. Chrisstasia Walter was named the Tournament MVP. Jasmine Patterson, Jade Herl and Jamie Patrick were all named to the All-Tournament team.

The HCC women, ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA poll, will go into the NJCAA Women’s Tournament with a 33-1 record,

The Blue Dragon men then took on and conquered archrival Barton 74-57 to complete the Blue Dragon double.

Alex Davis was named the tournament MVP, while Rozell Nunn, Kadeem Allen and A.J. Spencer were named to the all-tournament team,

The HCC women win Region VI for the second-straight year, for the third time in the last five years and for the fourth time in team history.

The Blue Dragon men return to the NJCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997. This is the 19th Region VI championship and will be the 17th appearance in the NJCAA Tournament.

Full recaps on both teams will move sometime early Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon.
