PARK CITY – The No. 3 Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team nearly saw an eight-point lead with two minutes to play disappear in the first Region VI Tournament women’s semifinal game against Butler on Friday at Hartman Arena.
The Lady Dragons managed to navigate rough waters in the final two minutes to defeat Butler 60-59.
Top-seed Hutchinson (32-1) will face second-seeded Cowley College (29-4) in the Region VI championship game at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Hartman Arena.
Sophomore Jade Hill tied her career high with four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points to lead HCC. But it was her final defensive stand that allowed HCC to escape with the victory.
Herl blocked Butler’s final shot attempt of Shayla Williams on the right baseline as time ran out to preserve HCC’s third-straight trip to the finals and the fourth trip in the last six years.
Chrisstasia Walter had 16 points, seven steals and six assists to lead HCC. Jen’Von’Ta Hill had eight points.
Samantha Satterlee led Butler with 13 points.
