TOPEKA – A former employee of the Topeka Correctional Facility has been sentenced to five years in prison on a federal gun charge.
33-year-old Anastacio D. Gallardo pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
In his plea, he admitted he was driving a van on Aug. 8, 2012, when the Topeka Police Department stopped him for a traffic violation. A search of the van revealed a tool box between the front seats that was found to contain methamphetamine. Also in the toolbox were a box of baggies, two sets of scales, a radio-frequency scanner and two loaded handguns, including a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver and a Glock .40 caliber pistol.
