The Hutchinson School Monday tabled any decision on improvements to the sports complex at 23rd & Cleveland

They reviewed bids for improvements in soccer and baseball facilities at the complex. Bids on the project were above architect’s estimates at about $641,000

Originally purchased in the 1970s for a possible new junior high school, the complex has been used for soccer and baseball since the 1990s. Storage of maintenance equipment and the mobile scoreboards for the facility is in an aging pole barn that is near its useful lifespan.

Additionally, the facility has no permanent restrooms or locker rooms, even though three organizations (Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Middle School and Hutchinson Community College) use the complex for home soccer games.

Improvements have been proposed for the facility since 1999. A master plan completed by the DLR Group about a decade ago, estimated costs of improvements at the facility at nearly triple the costs proposed.

The board tabled the matter, postponing a decision until the Jan. 14 meeting.
