Preliminary Hearing for Hutchinson Man’s Involuntary Manslaughter Case Continued

NEWTON – The preliminary hearing in Harvey County for a Hutchinson man charged with involuntary manslaughter which was scheduled for Friday has been continued now until after the first of year.

According to officials in the Harvey County Attorney’s office, the preliminary hearing for Brian Reed will be on January 25.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, Reed is also charged with aggravated battery and battery on a correction’s officer.

Reed was arrested after he ran a stop sign at the intersection of West 1st and Ridge Road in Harvey County about three miles west of Newton.

His vehicle struck the vehicle driven by 52-year-old Donald Nickles of Hesston. A passenger in Nickles vehicle, 28-year-old Jessi Stroup of Alton, Kansas was killed. Nickles was taken to Wesley Medical Center listed in critical condition.

Reed was not injured and arrested by the Highway Patrol after the accident.

His bond was set at 100-hundred thousand dollars and again his preliminary hearing continued to January 25.
