Kansas Teachers’ Group Had $418K Ahead Of Election

TOPEKA (AP) – A finance report shows that the largest teachers’ union in Kansas had more than $418,000 to spend on campaign activities in the final 10 days before the Nov. 6 elections.

The Kansas National Education Association filed a report on the activities of its political action committee this week, reporting it spent nearly $280,000 from July 27 through Oct. 25.

But the PAC also had more than $698,000 in cash during the same period, leaving it with a big balance ahead of Tuesday’s election.

The KNEA’s PAC contributed this fall to dozens of legislative candidates, most of them Democrats. It also gave $65,000 to other organizations helping Democrats and spent nearly $47,000 on mailings for Democratic state Senate candidates.

The PAC also spent more than $60,000 on polling.
