For the second time this season, Hutchinson Community College sophomore running back Terrell Lane has been named the NJCAA’s National Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday.
Lane, a 5-foot-11, 226-pound sophomore from Norton, became the 16th Blue Dragon to rush for 1,000 yards in a season on Saturday night when he rushed for 178 yards on 19 carries to lead the No. 12 Blue Dragons to a 75-0 victory over Independence.
Lane accounted for four total touchdowns, three rushing from distances of 16, 15 and 2 yards and he caught a 27-yard touchdown pass. Lane accounted for 205 all-purpose yards.
Lane jumped from ninth to seventh on the Blue Dragon career rushing list with 1,615 yards. He now has 1,152 rushing yards for the season, which is 10th on the single-season list. Lane now has 29 career touchdowns and 156 career points, both marks rank third for a career.
The Blue Dragon running back also earned the National Offensive Player of the Week award after his Sept. 8 record-breaking performance against Garden City when he rushed for a Blue Dragon record 308 yards.
This is the eighth time that a Blue Dragon has won a national Player of the Week award in the Rion Rhoades era.
