TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism has received two awards for KANSAS! Magazine, adding to the colorful magazine’s growing collection of industry honors.
On October 1, the International Regional Magazine Association, Inc. (IRMA) gave the Fall 2011 edition of KANSAS! its Award of Merit in the Food Feature category and awarded a Bronze in the category of Most Improved Magazine. The awards were based on overall writing and design. KANSAS! competed against 38 other regional publications.
The Award of Merit for Food Feature was in response to an article written by Overland Park writer Kimberly Winter Stern with photography by Jason Dailey. “Chefs a la Carte” profiled four Kansas culinary stars and their delectable fares: Michael Beard (715, Lawrence), Greg Fox (Row House Restaurant and Catering, Topeka), Richard Sanell (Café on the Route, Baxter Springs) and Beth Tully (Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates, Wichita).
The Bronze for Most Improved Magazine was awarded to recognize general improvements in the 2011 editions of KANSAS! Magazine compared to the 2010 editions.

According to IRMA, a regional magazine is a general-interest, authoritative voice that aims to define, interpret, and explore a specific, recognizable region for those living there or yearning to.
KANSAS! Magazine is published quarterly in February, May, August and November as the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter issues.
