OSAWATOMIE (AP) – A 32-year-old northeast Kansas man died after police used a Taser gun on him while he tried to flee.

Osawatomie police say Travis L. Maupin died at the Miami County Medical Center Thursday morning.

Police say Maupin had barricaded himself inside a home after police arrived to investigate a report of domestic violence.

He came out of the home but ran when paramedics checked the woman for injuries. Officers chased him for about a block and used the Taser on him when he resisted.

Osawatomie police asked the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to look into the death.

Was it really necessary to subdue the man? Shooting first and asking questions later is at times the best option. This was not one of them. Well, anyway, at least now all the citizens of Osawatomie, Kansas and the rest of the United States are now safe: aren’t we?

Alternately, they could have opted to let the man go and talk with him later, after emotions had settled down to a manageable level, for all involved parties. Why does everything have to happen Right-Now?

Why shoot him with a gun when you can watch him fry that’s HPDs stance to. Must be what there teaching now days at KLETC when there not killing there wife’s and burning there houses down.

First, look who wrote the story. Anything Gough writes can be taken with a grain of salt. My sister was arrested last year and he wrote a story on what happened and totally butchered it. It was outrageous. He doesn’t check facts (or proofread), and when you make suggestions or criticisms, he takes it personally and gets defensive. I would suggest everyone not assume everything is “fact” in any story written by this guy.

Actually, this is an Associated Press story. That’s why it has the little AP mention at the beginning of the story.. I posted it, but didn’t write it. Just an FYI..

Fred the AP picks up stories that are written by people like you and then publish it nation wide. Don’t be defensive.
