Hutch Man Charged With Agg Battery After Striking A Man With His Truck Makes Court Appearance
The man who accidentally ran over a Wichita man back in September has been formally charged and made a first appearance in District Court.
46-year-old Tommy Rockey is charged with aggravated battery for the incident which caused the victim to be flown to a Wichita hospital.
Sheriff Officials say it happened just before 6:30 p-m on the evening of September 26, at 5510 E 69th. When deputies arrived, they discovered that a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Rockey had driven up a small hill, lost control, and started driving towards a crowd of people.
Everyone but 24-year-old Daron O’Malley of Wichita managed to get out of the way and he was run over. O’Malley was airlifted by EagleMed Helicopter to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries.
Rockey told the court Wednesday morning that he needed time to hire his own attorney, so Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen set a status hearing in the case for October 17.
Rockey is free on a bond of 10-thousand dollars.
