HCC’s Johns Named KJCCC Special Teams Player Of The Week

Sophomore Miguel Johns was named the Jayhawk Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his first career punt return helped the Hutchinson Community College football team to a 49-12 victory at Highland.

Johns, a 5-foot-11, 181-pound sophomore from Newton opened the second half in grand fashion on Saturday when he ran his first career punt back for a touchdown, taking a punt at the Hutch 46 and going 54 yards into the end zone to give HCC a 35-6 lead. Johns averaged 21.3 yards per return on three punts.

Johns was one of three Blue Dragons with 100 or more all-purpose yards. He had a 174 all-purpose yards, adding one kickoff return for 14 yards and four receptions for 95 yards.

Johns is the fifth Blue Dragon to earn Jayhawk Conference weekly honors. This is the third time a Blue Dragon has captured special teams honors.

Verizon and the Jayhawk Conference are in the third year of a partnership to honor the Jayhawk Conference’s weekly Players of the Week.

Mesh is now eligible for NJCAA national player of the week. That award will be announced on Wednesday.
