Kansan Part of the Air Force Thunderbirds
When he lived in the Pretty Prairie and Kingman areas, Captain Blane Jones was working in a bakery according to friends of the Air Force Serviceman. Over the weekend, he got to wow fellow Kansans at the McConnell Air Force Base open house as a member of the “Thunderbirds” Air Force precision flying squad.
Jones is the opposing solo pilot for the “Thunderbirds,” flying the No. 6 jet. He entered the Air Force in 2002 from Officer Training School after graduating from Kansas State University in 1996. Before joining the team, he served as an F-22 instructor pilot and assistant director of operations for the 27th Fighter Squadron, Langley Air Force Base, Va. He has logged more than 1,300 flight hours as an Air Force pilot. Captain Jones is in his first season with the team.
